Umuulan Tuwing Kumakanta

You Gotta Be by Des'ree

Before I start, I would like to thank Blueeses/Eric/Rhyce for the mp3. Thanks, bro!

This song reminds me of the stress interview I underwent to be admitted in a student organization. When I say stress interview, I mean STRESS interview. Picture this. You’re in your business attire on a school day where everybody wears casual. You’re blindfolded and lead to an empty classroom. You heard the door slammed close. The guys you thought as friends now asks you in their serious tone. They forbid you to laugh or smile. You are to address them as ‘Sir’. They ask you silly questions and you’re supposed to answer them seriously and politely. They even whisper in your ears. They made banging sounds like hitting the blackboard, kicking the chairs and slamming the armrest on the chair you’re seated on. They make fun of you, make you do crazy stuff like pretending to sell a casket or do push-ups or sing. You’re just an applicant and passing this interview is a prerequisite to being admitted in the organization.

The first interviewee from my batch came out shocked. He kept cursing them (the interviewers). He tried to control it but he wept. That’s when I thought I have to brace myself up. Although this was not my first stress interview, I still have apprehensions. A friend was kind enough to accidentally leak the questions and tasks that will be asked from the applicant during the interview. He didn’t hand us the file. He just left it lying around. I guess he didn’t want what happened to the 1st applicant to happen to us. There was this part where we will be asked to sing. I can’t just sing anything. Heck, that time I can’t sing period. So I tried searching for a song that could send them a message (not to mess with me) and at the same time keep me sane.

So I picked this song and sang parts of it during the interview. I pretended to be scared and stressed to keep them from being more intense but I really can’t help myself smirking. I can still hear them commanding me a dozen times to wipe the smirk off my face. I showed them.

(2)Listen as your day unfolds
Challenge what the future holds
Try and keep your head up to the sky
Lovers, they may cause you tears
Go ahead release your fears

Stand up and be counted
Don't be ashamed to cry

You gotta be

(1)You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser, you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger

You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm
You gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

Herald what your mother said
Readin' the books your father read
Try to solve the puzzles in your own sweet time

Some may have more cash than you
Others take a different view
my oh my heh, hey..(repeat l)

Don't ask no questions, it goes on without you
Leaving you behind if you can't stand the pace
The world keeps on spinning
You can't stop it, if you try to
This time it's danger staring you in the face
oh oh oh

Remember (repeat 2)
My oh my heh, hey, hey(repeat 1, 1...ad lib to fade)

Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) by Baz Luhrmann

Gusto ko talaga 'tong kantang to.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’99
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be
it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by
scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable
than my own meandering
experience…I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not
understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and
recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before
you and how fabulous you really looked….You’re not as fat as you
imagine.

Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as
effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing
bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that
never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you

Sing

Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with
people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes
you’re behind…the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with
yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you
succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your
life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
olds I know still don’t.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe
you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky
chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…what ever you do, don’t
congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your
choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s. Enjoy your body,
use it every way you can…don’t be afraid of it, or what other people
think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever
own..

Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for
good.

Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the
people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you
should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and
lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you
knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live
in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will
philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize
that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were
noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund,
maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one
might run out.

Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will
look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who
supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of
fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the
ugly parts and recycling it for more than
it’s worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen…

Slow Down by Natalie Imbuglia

You got it the wrong way round completely
The fact that I love you so
Doesn't make me a fool
One day you just might grow tired of chasing
The end of a rainbow
Your already there you know

So slow down
Tell me why you're running
Turn round
Let it out and keep it coming
Nothing I can do if I can't get to you
Slow down

Remember the day you came to see me
Even that lonely long drive
Couldn't keep us apart
And you opened up to me completely
And you gave me peace of mind
The rest we can leave behind

So slow down
Tell me why you're running
Turn round let it out and keep it coming
Nothing I can do if I can't get to you
Slow down

You don't have to hurt yourself
And feel so small
It's so confusing
And you're already there

Slow down
Tell me why you're running
Turn round let it all out keep it coming
Nothing I can do if I can't get to you
Slow down

So slow down
Tell me why you're running
Turn round let it all out and keep it coming
Nothing I can do if I can't get to you
Slow down
Slow down
